Stinky Movie – Marcus Rand Interview
We’ll be running short interviews with the crew members of the Stinky Movie trip to Bulgaria. We’ll feature questions from us and will throw in the mix the best questions that some of you asked for each one of the guys over our Instagram, check all of them HERE
Marcus Rand is a man of actions and reactions. One of the coolest people you’ll ever meet. To know more about him and the Yawgoons peep our short documentary here, but to hear what he thinks about his Bulgarian trip just read the words bellow.
The trip to Bulgaria was the first time, when pretty much all of the Stinky Fam got together. What was the feeling meeting the whole crew?
The feeling of meeting the whole crew was exciting. None of us had ever been to Bulgaria, so we all had the same feeling of nervousness and we all rolled as a crew. It hatched many instant friendships that developed throughout the weeks in some amazing ways.
How was Bulgaria?
Bulgaria, or as i would say “the bulge area”, is old school. The buildings are and streets are stone, and the houses are rustic. The food has a really greek vibe with lots of cheese and the meats are, well lets just say I ate a bunch of animals and animal parts I’ve never heard of, but they were delicious. Rakia is the local alcohol and definitely takes some getting used to (fortunately when u get drunk enough it tastes like water). I recommend taking at least several rakia shots per day while in Bulgaria. Another crazy thing was how illegal weed was out there, I had to cop some shit that came inside of a hollowed out brown bread. Shit smoked nice though 🙂 and obviously I ate the bread which turned out to be delicious.
What was the first thing you’ve said once you got back from the trip?
My girlfriend Avery was the one who came and got me from the airport in Boston when I got home. The first thing i said to her was “I love you” while she carried my bags for me as I crutched out of Logan airport with a broken ankle.
You had to cut your trip half due to the injury, how was the process of getting back to snowboarding?
My trip was cut an half due to a broken fibula. I rolled my ankle worse than I ever have, snapping the bone in half, which actually didn’t hurt as bad as you would think. It took at least a few hours for the pain to really set in and by then Risto scored me all the drugs I needed from one of the local pharmacies in Sofia. I then took an emergency flight home with an 8 hr layover in Munich, Germany (luckily there was a smoking lounge and I had a full prescription of tramadol). Getting back to snowboarding, skating and surfing after an injury is always tough mentally and physically but I think that if you are patient time will heal all. But don’t ever expect to get back to 100%, you just learn to work with what you got.
What was the feeling to film with that many people at once?
In my opinion, rolling with a crew this big is a blast, the more the better.

Im taking my mom to Bulgaria whenever she buys me the damn ticket!
